REF615 is a member of ABB’s Relion® product family and part of its 615 protection and control product series. The 615 series IEDs are characterized by their compactness and withdrawable-unit design. Re-engineered from the ground up, the 615 series has been designed to unleash the full potential of the IEC 61850 standard for communication and interoperability between substation automation devices. The IED provides main protection for overhead lines and cable feeders in distribution networks. The IED is also used as back-up protection in applications, where an independent and redundant protection system is required. Depending on the chosen standard configuration, the IED is adapted for the protection of overhead line and cable feeders in isolated neutral, resistance earthed, compensated and solidly earthed networks. Once the standard configuration IED has been given the application-specific settings, it can directly be put into service.
