The Chance testprobe is a mechanical tool to identify soil in a simple and quick way from the earth surfacewithout core samples. To find out the soil bearing capacity the soil test probe is screwed intothe soil. As it displaces the soil, probe torque readings are measured in inch-pounds on atorque gauge. The torque values obtained are translated into soil classification using theChance Soil Classification Data chart. The table 10.1 below shows the soil classification asper A. B.
