These disks are formatted for 1.44 MB and are IBM compatible. Notice that the disk has a metal plate on one end of the disk. This is the access cover on the disk. When inserting a disk into a disk drive make sure that the end with the access cover goes in first. The disk will only go in one way so if the disk will not go all the way in, turn it over and try again. To get a disk out of a drive, press the eject button located near the drive door. NOTE: Never remove or insert a disk while the active light is on. Also every disk will have two square holes on the outer corners of the disk. One indicates that the disk is a high density disk. The other is used for write protection. If the write protection window is open, than the disk can not be written to. (Can not save information to the disk). This window should be opened for all system software disks. This way the original information will stay protected.​​​​​​​To get the maximum flexibility out of the S4 Computer System, the operating software is loaded into RAM memory. This gives flexibility because different software options can be supplied simply by loading new system software. The RAM memory is battery backed by two 3.6 volt lithium batteries. The life expectancy of these batteries is 5 years. If both of these batteries are disconnected and the main disconnect is turned off, the computer will loose the information stored in RAM. Or, if one of the computer boards (Main, Robot, or Memory) is disconnected, the system will also lose memory and have to be
